“Mamma’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” … Ridge the Little
Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson had a song back in the 70’s,“Mamma’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys” and everyone would sing the lyrics. We would sing and reminisce of our growing up playing a cowboy or cowgirl riding the range on our stick horses. We watched Roy Rogers, Randolph Scott, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Gary Cooper, and Jimmy Stewart (who was actually a great horseman) play characters that we would mimic. Let’s not forget Gun Smoke and Bonanza, always longing to be on that ranch. We were lucky enough to sometimes have real horses and the cowboy/cowgirl instinct kicked in for real. I think that every child has this playful desire to be a real cowboy or cowgirl. A child’s mind is innocent and creative. After all, Waylon and Willie romanticized the cowboy drifter. I love the western landscape and all it’s beauty. I secretly would have loved growing up on a ranch. Remember the song “Should’ve been a Cowboy”? This painting is “Ridge the Little” living on a farm and growing up like a real cowboy. 8x10 unframed linen panel https://www.pathutchensart.com/
